Art Basel is an unmissable meeting place for artists, new talents, collectors and other personalities from the cultural scene. The prestigious exhibitions present different art forms and varied works, from contemporary masters to emerging talents. Art Basel is the most prestigious international contemporary art fair in Switzerland. Some 90,000 visitors are expected each year. A unique opportunity to take the pulse of contemporary creation.
At Art Basel, it’s crowded with gallery owners, curators, museum directors, buyers, collectors, art enthusiasts. And for good reason, the international art fair welcomes nearly 300 art galleries from 35 countries and all continents to present the work of some 4,000 artists. Other contemporary art exhibitions are offered in the Three Borders region, including the contemporary art exhibition Art Karlsruhe in Germany.
Art Basel is exported to Miami and Hong Kong, but it was in Basel, Switzerland, that it all began in 1970. More than 50 years later, the success of the event continues to grow, from 60,000 visitors at the beginning of the century. to more than 90,000 today!
Regulars are not the only ones to flock to the doors of the Basel Mass. Every year, just over a thousand artists and galleries hope to be among Art Basel’s exhibitors. In the end, “only” 300 galleries have the privilege of seeing their artists selected for one of the largest contemporary art fairs on the planet. The fair is organized into several sections that showcase different forms of art. One of the emblematic sections of Art Basel is the part that exhibits budding artists, the future giants. Called “Young Galleries” or “Declarations” depending on the era, the young talents section is always the most scrutinized.

During the Art Basel week, several spots take place in Basel and the region. List, Volta and Photo Basel are now unmissable events on the sidelines of the main programme. The art fair La Liste Basel, the main international contemporary art fair, was founded in 1996. Every year, a generation of young galleries are outstanding representatives of the latest developments and contemporary art.
